The Shopping List
The shoppers companion - "the shopping list". If an item gets on the shopping list, it gets purchased. But with electronic shopping, this list is missing - right? Wrong!

The Grocer-eScan™ solution from PSC is a convenient and intuitive method for the shopper to create the list and use it to place an order quickly and easily. The Grocer-eScan solution combines the Momentum™ Scanner from PSC with the Visor™ handheld computer from Handspring™ and the device and server software from HighPoint. Together, they make electronic shopping the ultimate in speed and convenience, and minimize behavior change from creating a paper shopping list.

Scan the UPC code on an empty can of soup or a bar code in the e-tailer's catalog - either way, the item shows up on the electronic shopping list. And if the item has been ordered before, no scanning is necessary - simply select from the previously ordered list. More than 30,000 SKU descriptions and prices are stored with the HighPoint® Appliance Software in the Momentum scanner. Each time the shopper places an order, delivery options can be displayed while the SKU and pricing updates are automatically made to the internal database. The speed and convenience make Grocer-eScan easier than using traditional home shopping web sites where the majority of shoppers exit before completing their first on-line shopping cart.

The Handspring Visor is a powerful pocket-size handheld computer with an address book, advanced date book and calculator, memo pad, and a "to do" list. Developed by the creators of the original PalmPilot™, it's based on the Palm OS™. The shopper gets real organizing power and the ability to run thousands of existing Palm Computing platform applications. And with Handspring's unique Springboard expansion slot, it's a snap to add other software or hardware modules. In an instant, the Visor handheld computer effortlessly converts to a music player, a wireless modem, a pager, even an electronic book - with more to come!

Self Contained - Plug-in & Scan!
 The Momentum scanner contains the HighPoint® Appliance Software and merchant´s SKU database. The autoload feature provides the convenience of simply plugging in the Momentum scanner and Grocer-eScan comes to life. For ordering security, each unit contains a confidential unique ID to ensure the ownership of the order.

Unlike other scanning Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) which require the software be pre-installed and take valuable memory from the PDA, the Visor computer with Momentum scanner is designed to contain the application software in the scanning module. Momentum provides the choice of either 2 or 4 MB of flash memory, enough for the HighPoint Appliance Software and a generous SKU database. And since it's flash memory, the database won't be lost even if the Visor computer batteries run out! The Momentum module contains its own rechargeable NiMH battery, providing hundreds of scans before recharge.

Grocer-eScan connects to either a PC or Mac using a high speed USB or RS232 connection to transfer the grocery order to the e-tailer's warehouse.
